Pamela Call Recorder

ID #1099

When I am recording a call only one side is being recorded. Why is that?

Skype v3 introduced a new method to record Skype audio. This method uses TCP/IP which is the same protocol used by your web brower and other internet applications.

Firewall and anti-virus applications monitor local communication and block anything they do not know or from applications that are not whitelisted. Examples are McAfee Security, Norton Internet Security, ZoneAlarm, Avast, etc.

After you start call recording these applications might block the communication between Skype and Pamela, thinking they are trying to do something bad. This can happen instantly or after 59 seconds. Also they might block only one channel which results in a one sided call recording.

To verify this you can turn off McAfee Security (or Norton Internet Security, etc.) and try to record another call. Most likely you will see that the recording can be completed and shows up in the list.

Second step is that you should add "Skype.exe" and "Pamela.exe" to the whitelist of your security suite. Refer to the manuals on how to do this.

Some anti virus products (like Avast) allow you to exclude local communications. Make sure you set such an option to allow Skype to communicate with other applications via TCPIP.

After these changes your recordings should work fine. Please note that this is not an issue specific to Pamela but related to the way Skype sends out the audio.
